My son asked my opinion (imagine that coming from a 14 y/o...lol) on the best type of spikes for a catcher. He's always worn mids and was wondering if lows would provide more comfort/flexibility. Your thoughts?

I shared with him that I had read some catchers preferred molded to metal cleats. He said no way he's giving up the metal now that he gets a chance to wear them, besides they sound cool when you walk on the pavement...

Molded are alot more comfortable; yeah they don't sound as cool when walking on concrete. He's young; his knees and ankles don't mind metal right now. Just remember he isn't digging in as a catcher because he has to move behind the plate.

Personally, prefer low cut spikes but that is just me. Mid cuts should be fine as long as they don't restrict ankle flexibility. As far as brand preference, Reebok or Adidas as I think they are more comfortable than Mizuno (most kids favorite) or Nike. Whatever brand he likes should be fine.

Hope the upcoming season goes well for him. Good luck.
