I seem to remember seeing that Fed is clarifying the inadvertant foul ball call to exclude fly balls caught. I can't find where I saved the memo and wonder if anybody else remembers the same.
MST, Good to see you!. Hope you had a good holiday season.....
I got this off of the NFHS website: 2006 rule changes. I will look at my rules memos when I get home to see if any additional info is enclosed.
2-16-1e: Add to the current rule: e. Inadvertently declared foul by an umpire that touches the ground (becomes dead). Rationale: Additional coverage to the definition of a foul ball.
Mandatory State Rules meeting for chapter interpreters for me is FEB 2, 2006. When does MD start up?
Our rules meeting is also Feb 2. We then follow up with a meeting the following weekend to impart the changes to the masses. I was hoping you would check in. I had a good holiday and trust yours was as well. My harddrive melted down on me a while back and I lost a ton of staored baseball stuff. I am just getting copies back of some of the manuals.
We have a 8 hr field clinic on March 4. We had been doing a 2.5 hr clinic in past years(which I thought was short) and this year the group asked if we would increase it to a full 8 hrs. They also felt that if you didn't attend you didn't get games. I like the theory but there is at least one old timer that is fighting it. His words were, " I can see it for the new guys but why for the veterans like us?" He is the biggest offender of using bad mechanics.
