If you are a junior in college and 21 years old and not drafted this June 2006, is there any other way you can be drafted? How does one become a free agent. Do you attend some type of try outs? What would be the best way to still get picked up? I know that 2 local players last year ended up in the Orioles organization, but were not drafted in the actual draft. Any help would be appreciated.

I think technically a team can sign you as a free agent wherever, whenever, with little or no strict rules on that. A couple years ago, I saw this hard throwing pitcher at a Florida Marlins camp. About a month later i saw the announcement on the TV's local channel that he had been signed out of University at 21 years old.

As far is if you haven't been drafted, your best bet probably is to find the best semi-pro or Independent League and ask them for a tryout perhaps. A lot of independent leaguers sign on with clubs.
good question,

IF you are eligable for the draft and are NOT drafted you become a (undrafted) free agent and may sign with any team ... until such time as you enter/re-enter college etc

each yr there are MANY undrafted free agents signed by teams

as the draft class shakes out and draftees sign or DON'T sign, teams will evaluate their needs and fill roster gaps. true, in most cases they don't consider you a mlb prospect ... but, your foot is in the door and you do have a chance to change their mind
