Ok everyone, I have another question. How many freshman players usually make the roster after try-outs? is it 12 or 15 or can it vary? I am new to all of this. Thanks
It seems like the freshman roster at our local school is very large, maybe 15-20 but I would imagine that varies from school to school. There are often 2-4 freshman playing jv also and sometimes a freshman will play varsity depending on the needs of the team and the maturity of the player.
I think 18 is about average for our area - I did read somewhere that sometimes it just comes down to how many "hand-me-down" uniforms are available for the Frosh - I'm assuming you are refering to a frosh team - not JV. Depending on the coaches and team strength you may have 2-3 Frosh on JV and 2-3 on V.
out here in Corona the four High Schools frosh teams average out to about 18 players, with one school having 24 players. you will find out that only about 8 steady players will play in games and the other players have to fight it out to get one at bat or play one inning.
My son school has two freshman teams. Each team has 15 players. My son team was playing with H.P shool team in Dallas area which has 24 players. One player is 6'5" and was throwing mid 80 at the mount. The final score was 4-2 at the fifth inning. The game was called off due to the lighting on 4/3/07. Otherwise, my son team may have a chance to win or tie that game. Each player playing time is much better than the other team.
how they do it around here, as I assume in your area is that freshman games are usually doubleheaders. We play the same team twice, usually in an "A" game and "B" game, which allows everyone to play.
