My boy threw 90mph goes to college and the coach has him change a little and is down to 85mph is this normal in your freshman year. Also he throws every day do you think this will change when the season starts and they dont throw as much. This is not just him his friend threw 93 he is down to 87mph.

I would say he might want to be a little more patient at this moment. Speeding up the motion will cause some things to get out of whack and he will need time to get things back in sync. This is what frustrates some players - a coach says "let's make a change" and the player tries it once and says it feels weird and doesnt' like it. Well it feels weird because they are used to doing things a certain way and now it's being changed to something they are not familiar with. Mechanical changes / tempo changes take some time to work out the issues of being in sync.

The 3/4 slot shouldn't be a problem as long as he keeps his hand behind the ball.

He might be experiencing some dead arm if he is throwing more than he's used to. It's typically just a period of fatigue that he can bounce back from.

Is there anyway to post some video of him - preferably some before and after change in mecahnics - so we can really get a good look at the changes?
I to will try to get video I think you are correct about dead arm this week he was down to 83mph but he was told to throw the ball in a too inch circle. he s going to let it loose this week not worry about the about the the two inch circle.I think he will in up at a juco if his velocity is back. I am trying to support him but it is hard you bring your only son up there at 91mph now down to 83.Also coach he was home thanksgiving and was 87 to 90 with a couple days rest. the coach told him to throw long toss this weekend because he is not traveling he is going to just do band work and rest.Is this normal to throw 3 or 4 bullpens a week and then throw long toss the other days has not had a day off .
Making adjustments can change velocity. If he is throwing more strikes it's working and sometimes velo has to give way to command in the beginning. Most pitchers early in the season start out with lower velo, building strength and stamina as they go. Long toss everyday is what one is supposed to do for conditioning, but if throwing BP's every other day (makes for 3-4) and long toss, it may be too much? What does he do the day after a BP or after BP? Is he getting the lactid acid out? Is it long toss or just warm up toss? And is there pitching practice or just BP? Kind of confusing, I agree with Caoch, what he is actually doing. As long as there is no pain or discomfort, could be a tired arm.

Pitchers work load increases not decreases. My son tosses the day after pitching but not as he does before season, and everyone is different in their routine and preferences.

He was at 86 last week last year he was 89 to 91 from april on but he is a converted catcher and probally was a thrower last year. I guess they are teaching him how to pitch but I dont like the velo decrease.TPM it likes the fast windup make him use all arm so he is going back to normal and the coach hasnt said anything yet.I am worry if his arm is really ok can dead arm last amonth also he has been trying to pitch to location and just now started throwing harder we are hoping that because he hasnt been letting it loose maybe the harder bullpens will help He also had aset back in the fall were he missed three weeks of practice
I am not surprised at your response, you never stated he was a catcher in your first post. Obviously he is now learning how to pitch.

Throwing 90+ as a catcher and pitching at 90+ are two different things.

Not sure what his set back was so hard to know what is really going on.

Bullpens are necessay, it's where the pitcher gets to practice and the BP # of pitches should increase as his strength increases. He obviously needs practice.

I would suggest just sitting back and relaxing and let the coach do his job and let your son do his as well.
