this is one of those mechanical things that obsessive pitching coaches like to fret over. Just make sure you are not landing on 1) stiff front leg or 2) heel and that your step is straight in front of your foot when you were standing facing the plate. Check your kick leg foot while you are in the balance position. It should not be stiff and it should be pointed downward, ballarina style but still with some PLAY and RELAXATION.
if you can, check out some vid of former dodger pitcher Orel Hirshiser. He had GREAT kick leg action and toe action on kick leg. Ive seen a photo of Andy Pettite looking really stiff (landing) and landing on his heel. Great pro but not great mex there for sure. Landing on toe and cross stepping can be nagging habits for pitchers. I see them doing both in the bigs but bigs pitchers have, for the most part, good mex.
