Lately I've been in a slump getting maybe one hit a game or no hits at all. Coach says I'm grounding out because I'm too focused on throwing my hands at the ball that I'm not getting my front palm down and the back palm up. When I did this my back shoulder dropped but I was hitting solid. Does a good swing have a natural but not drastic drop in back shoulder?

Perhaps that's his way of saying you're rolling over on some pitches? If you watch major leaguers you will see that they are front palm down and back palm up at contact. You should also take note of a couple other things, (1) their shoulder line tilts and the front shoulder is high and the back shoulder is low...(2) their front elbow is high and back elbow is low, L-shaped at the ribs (the high front elbow keeps you from rolling over on the pitch)...and (3) the plane of their front arm matches the plane of the bat (you can draw a line along them)..i.e. they do not dogleg the bat. If you change to this swing it will feel like you're dropping your back shoulder but it's not wrong. Trust it.
