Frontier league experiments with new extra innings rule

Whose going to pick offense?  That's just dumb.  The runner on second rule you can bunt to third and have a chance to win on any ball in play.  The sudden death rule you have to rely on a hit or error in the inning or you lose.

I haven't read the rule. Can they put any runner they want on first? Can they jump to any spot in the batting order?

No, order continues after last inning. Runner I think is the guy who made the last out but you could pinch run for him.

Runner on first with no outs doesn't sound like a bad chance to score a run. I'm pretty sure they calculated the chance and came pretty close to 50%.

Run expectancy matrix has about 0.83 runs expected from that situation but of course that is overall expectancy and not chance to score 1.

Where do people come up with this stuff?  That's maybe the dumbest idea I've ever heard.  If you are doing it to save pitching then just call it a tie.  Don't turn it into a $hitshow by making up some ridiculous way to end it. 

If I'm understanding this calculator, offense looks like the play. Looking at historical bottom of the 9th situations, home team with runner on 1st and no outs wins 75% of the time.

Edited: it later occurred to me that the "Win %" would include games that went beyond 9 innings, so the better measure would be "0 runs". So, the offense has scored about 43% of the time in this situation.

Son played with this rule in a 4 team league during covid summer year (2020) which consisted of former MLB players, current MilB players, former Milb players and Independent league players. When Mgr had the option, picked defense as he was strong defensively throughout lineup and late relievers had good control not to walk people. I don't think they could pick any baserunner--I think it was whoever made the last out, or someone who was on bench having not played in game.
