Wow, I had a fun week watching high school baseball, and I picked some great games to attend. Congratulations to all six of these teams, as intensity was high and the importance of every pitch was obvious. (I'm sure I missed plenty of other great games, so let's hear about the dramatic highlights...)

Monday: SL Carroll at Coppell
SL Scores 2 in the top of the 8th, and Coppell is down to its last out when young Adam Toth drills an oppo line drive double that was past the third baseman before he could get his glove above his head. Coppell stays undefeated in district.

Tuesday: McKinney Boyd at Plano
Boyd, ahead 3-1, has Plano down to its last out in the seventh when Randy Mann, who pitched fantastically, may have lost his process pitch-by-pitch focus and started thinking about winning the game. He got behind in the count versus sweet-swinging Brett Johnson and had to come in with a 2-0 FB. Johnson didn't miss, drilling a triple off the RF fence. Plano wins 4-3 to stay in the running for a district title.

Friday: Red Oak at Poteet
Poteet uses several trick plays to add to the entertainment value, including running off the field after a strikeout for the second out of the inning. This was well orchestrated. The runner knows there's only two out, so he takes off for second, after a bit of hesitation. Poteet's outfielder is standing at the bag at second, and someone (I'm not sure which guy) had picked up the ball the catcher had rolled towards the mound. Easy throw for the putout.

But I digress. Red Oak had a 7-3 lead at the halfway point, and Poteet chipped away until they were down to their final strike when Ryan Moody hits a 2RBI single to LF to tie it. Moody then gets the walk-off GWRBI in the 9th.

Congrats to all.

Martin showing well:

and

Martin 4 10 0

Wasn't this supposed to be a three-way with West, Martin, and Prestonwood??

Why did Prestonwood decide not to play in these games?

No menage a trois for Prestonwood, monogomous I guess? Cool

And congrats to Lewisville. They are having a tough year but that is a nice win for them.
Interesting; sure. Fair; why not get everyone out there to write on what they see at each game so no coach ever has to go scouting again? That is part of the strategy of playoffs is to see which coaching staff is the best prepared and a lot of that comes from scouting your opponents yourself. My grand daddy taught me a long time ago that just because an idea seems good to you does not mean it will benefit others in a positive manner. Just the opinion of a daddy baller. Take it for what its worth.
I thought the purpose of this site was for players, parents, and coaches to exchange information and stories and to ask questions. Coach Traub was simply sharing an interesting trick play which I enjoyed hearing about as entertainment. If a team loses in the playoffs because of a trick play, they lost because they weren't prepared and aware of the game. A coach hopes that a trick play might work once but doesn't expect it to work multiple games. Once it is tried in a game it is public knowledge.

If that trick play is top secret, then we should not post any information on games. If we post information on who pitched and how they did, then an opposing coach knows and he may gain an unfair advantage. We better not post anything on players injuries to wish them a speedy recovery as it lets opposing coaches know of the injury. If a player hits a home run and we post of it, then the opposing coach will know not to pitch to that batter.

I don't think anyone has a right to tell a member what they can and cannot post unless it is harmful and malacious.

Agreed. It could also be considered scouting for an opposing coach to take the time to search through a messageboard for a team they do not see play. It is not as if this site contacts certain coaches with vital information.
at poteet, our first round matchup was pretty well set before the game with red oak. coach doe was well aware that there would be other coaches in the stands scouting. we have run the same play several times over the last few years...it has worked some and hasn't worked some. if he didn't want it to be seen he wouldn't have called it. if i counted right there were 4 other schools in the stands watching and that includes the ones that were trying to not look like coaches. execution takes place on the field, not on paper.
