Any ideas for raising money for an idividual kid. I hate the thought of even having to do this and just feels so tacky but I'm realizing it is a last resort. My son was presented with a great oppotunity with great exposure but as we all know it can get pretty expensive to play on a showcase team with all the travel and upfront cost. We already have family that will help with some of the cost but would like to find other ways to raise some money. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks.

Find things to do for neighbors. Cut grass/yard work, dog sit, run errands if he can drive. Put out a newsletter in paper boxes of select neighbors explaining he is raising money to play baseball. Saw skateboarder on Olympics who did same thing to pay for his training. I dont allow just money donations for son, he has to do something to earn it. Good luck

Hate to be an A$$, but does the kid have a job?  Both my sons played travel/select ball and for the most part the expenses came out of our pocket.  My oldest son did start umping LL and youth games as well as cut grass around the neighborhood when he was in high school.  While he didn't earn a lot he did earn enough to pay for his day to day expenses such as gas and hanging out with the friends.  This helped to take some of the financial burden off of us so we could pay his fees.

That's a great job for a HS kid! Great pay and it's fun too. I did it for a couple years in HS and still do. You are in PA? He could ref spring league.

There are always things that need to be done that people hate to do.  Have your son figure out which of those things he can do - and start selling his "services".

It can be something as simple as washing windows... nobody really wants to do it, but it needs to be done. Many people would be glad to pay a kid a few bucks to do it for them. I'm sure you can come up with some things that are common in your area.  Car washes, gutter clean outs, etc.

My son is going to go through training to be a lifeguard this summer so that he can get a position once he turns 16 in October. (Yes - year round pools down here...)
