Can you get inside your HS gym or another building and throw against a wall? You can use a incrediball or tennis ball in there if you are by yourself.

floridafan are you against using your glove with a tennis ball or just saying it's a good drill to work on "soft hands"? I don't think it matters either way but it helps to do both barehand and glove with tennis balls. Just curious on what you've done.
We have done bare handed drills as well as glove drills. Yes the idea of no glove would be to develop "soft hands", and smooth transfers.

My guy would practice off the side of the house, very close up to work on reading short hops also.

We did not work with tennis balls, other than in the pool. I used to sit in the shallow end and my guys would dive off the diving board and I would throw them 2 tennis balls with the goal of catching both before they dove into the water. What I would do to have those days back!

For first time fungo hitters - its all about the toss. I've never seen the Accubat in action, but if it is getting you consistent, realistic balls go for it.

If you are taking fungos inside (either on a gym floor or in a batting cage) have the fungo hitter hit from a knee. If will help keep the ball down, minimize top-spin and/or skipping and make the ground balls more realistic. If you are using the Accubat, you might be able to have your dad sit on a bucket and hit from there to keep it low.

Yeah that was a fun game in the pool back in the day. Very similar to jump / dive where you jump off the board and while in air somebody yells JUMP or DIVE and you had to contort your body into that position before hitting the water. Seem some nice red skin after busting back in the day.

Sounds about like what I did growing up with ball against the home wall and short hops. Another thing I did to help with "soft hands" and transfer is use an oven mitt. It's similar to a pancake glove but allows more hand freedom.

My son uses a soft foam type ball and a 7 inch glove in the house to play wall ball. He sets up for different type hops and works on his footwork. He does this a lot and I can tell you it has improved his eye hand coordination and footwork a lot.
During the winter you should pretty much just be working on your fundamentals as well as your overall fitness level. If you aren't already, make sure you are working out 5 days a week if you are serious about improving your game. For inside infield drills:

1) Just have your dad roll you grounders and videotape you fielding them. Then look back at the tape and correct mechanics flaws.
2) Purchase (for around $10) a reaction ball if you don't already have one. Have your dad roll you grounders using this. This will improve your reaction time dramatically once you can field this ball consistently.
3) Practice your short hops by having your dad stand just a few feet away from you and give you one hoppers to short hop like you would be fielding them. Work on keeping your glove out in front of your body as you field them.

Cheers!
