My son (08 grad) received an invite to attend one of the four baseball games this fall at Furman Univ. with the first one starting on Aug. 18th/19th. The following weekend we will be attending the Young Harris College showcase at Young Harris College. I have a 3-part question:

1 - Being an 08 grad and this Furman camp is open for 9th - 12th, will he get more of a look from the coaches while the younger kids learn more about baseball skills, etc?

2 - Is the Furman camp a legit showcase/eval. or just another fund raiser for them?

3 - Is it ok to go to back-to-back showcases like that? He is a RHP and 3B, in that order (we think).

My son enjoyed the Furman camp/showcase last year. Yes, they let younger players attend, but there were only a couple when we were there, and mainly for the experience. Each player is given a written eval, regardless of age. We were very impressed with Ron Smith--a stand-up guy. Tell your son to be ready to shake hands, look him in the eye, and introduce himself. Coach Smith singles the prospects out individually right away with a handshake and intro. All else is a pro-style workout and eval.

They are a small D1 and a good academic school. Boys on the team seemed very nice, with some good talent last year. They are definately looking for prospects at these camps.
