1 out, runners at 1st and 2nd, 2 strikes on the hitter.
Batter swings and misses at a pitch outside, his momentum carries in front of the plate, runners are stealing. catcher throws to 2nd, the throw hits the batters bat. (there was no intent, if it matters)

they called, strike out, and runner out going to 2nd. did they get it right (i'm guessing they did, but i'd rather hear it here) goofy looking play I'll tell you.

No intent necessary on this one.

Any time the batter interferes with the catchers attempt to make a play he's guilty. If intent was necessary, batters would always, ahem, unintentionally fall across the plate when a teammate was stealing.

If there were less than two strikes on the batter he would have been called out and the runners returned to their time of pitch bases. In your situation, since the batter's swing was the third strike, he's out and the umpire judged that the runner could have been retired at second base minus the interference. The call of the second out is purely judgement on the part of the umpire. If he didn't believe the out at second could have occurred the ump would have returned the runners.
