getting frustrated with showcases--my son is a rhp 6' 2" 175 lb jr.
Has played high level summer ball since 12 competing in National tournaments and never looks like hes out of place. Batted over 400 and era under 3. Its seems in showcases because hes a contact hitter and not power-- hes fast but not really fast-(middle of pack at showcases)-- and is a great control pitcher--avg stat line would be for 7ip--7-8 ks--1 walk--4-5 hits--2-3 runs. his fb is 78-80, has 2-4 seam, changeup, curve, and recently slider--all hit there spots. trouble is because fb is 78-80 not 85+ he doesnt get rated well even though he consistently has done well agianst top competition. How do you get a kid noticed that doesnt throw 85+ but just gets people out?

At 6'2" and 175 I would not work on getting him noticed as a pitcher with control that throws 78-80. I would work on weight training, nutrition and getting him with a quality pitching instructor that can get him to 85+

Otherwise you are ultimately fooling yourself if you want to continue in this sport past HS.

At 6'2" he should be hitting for power as well, there is no reason to settle for being a contact hitter especially if your son is not very fast.

Choose one or the other and commit to becoming the best you can be. Mediocrity is not rewarded, and with your son's build he should not be mediocre.

Being that we are also from Illinois, I am curious which events your 2012 has attended. Our 2013 is almost identical in size, throws 82 and hits gap-to-gap and for power. It does seem that the much larger players get the attention, however, even if their numbers are similar.

We do see the word "projectable" a lot, though.

This summer 2013 will play on a highly talented travel team in major college showcase tournaments. We are hoping that game exposure will help get his name out.

Thanks. He has been doing all of the above. He is long and lean ( I used to be too Smile) I developed physically in late teens early twenties. Iam more frustrated with last showcase he attended--pitched in simulated game to 5 batters--3ks-other 2 batters fooled on off-speed and tapped slow rollers infield outs--no base-runners- looked very impressive never having a 3 ball count yet they said in his report "fair" control went 3-5 3rbis, db , no ks hitting got below avg in hitting, basically we were both extremly happy with how he played and looked like they watched a different kid. Anyway we have 2 yrs to continue to improve--he works extremly hard never misses workouts (is in all honors classes with 4.0 + gpa projects to plus 30 act--sorry had to brag). Thanks again everyone for letting me vent.
afew thoughts from my experience :

pitchers with the velocity being talked about here can pitch at the college level.

the key is finding a coach and program not hung up on velocity-----a pitcher that knows how to pitch can be awinner anywhere get on a good travelteam that will showcase your pitching talent and you will be fine.don't you make the decision regarding where you can pitch---let the college coaches do that---just go yo the mound and be the best pitcher that you can be

With your sons grades and the abilities that you have posted he will be able to play some where in college. Just don't have him box himself into a certain school or just D1. Not that he wont be able to play at the school of his choice or D1 but if he really wants to play in college be open to all possiblities.

TRhit nailed it!!
