Where did head coach go?

Tom Walter went to the University of New Orleans.

Traded one private school for another...interesting. Sure solves his cold weather recruiting dilemma.

University of New Orleans is a public institution. I can only assume that UNO offered Coach Walter a significant salary increase. UNO's academic standards are the polar opposite of GWU - requirements for admission to UNO are not much more than what's required at a JUCO. I would have thought Coach Walter's next move would have been to a school with top academics and sports - a Vandy, Rice, Stanford type of school. This move surprises me.

Coach Walter heading to UNO has been out for several weeks.

Congrats to Coach. Coach "Heels" (in Newport RI for the summer collegiate team) would like the head coaching job at GWU, and would also like the gumbo at UNO.

I think one of the main points of hiring Walters was to improve academics at UNO. I'm just wondering if that lefty freshman he had at GW is going to follow him to UNO?

A coach cannot improve academics at an institution. Coaches like Walters are usually hired by institutions that have stringent admissions policies. They know how to deal with recruits and their parents - a school like UNO which requires not much more than a heartbeat for admission, in my opinion is wasting the talents of Coach Walters.

Am I correct when I say the Marist Head Coach was an assistant at GW?

Students who graduate from state-approved high schools must complete the Louisiana Board of Regents Core Curriculum (currently TOPS Core) and require no more than one developmental/remedial course.


AND one of the following:

1. ACT composite score of 23 or greater (SAT I 1070)

2. High school cumulative GPA of 2.5* or greater
OR
3. High school graduation rank top 25% of class

*Students with less than a 2.0 will not be admitted

Marist new Coach was the Assistant Coach at George Mason as well as their top recruiter.

Both are true --

Raccuia was at GW before going to Mason...then onto Marist.
