Absolutely go with contacts. My son has been catching for two years with his contacts (since age 11). He doesn't really have issues with dirt in his eyes. It has only happened once this season and he just put lubricant drops in his eye. Just make sure to get the disposable (daily or weekly) contacts and have extra ones with you at the games. Also carrying a travel size bottle of saline solution and lubricant drops is also a great idea just in case (we use Aquify brand solution and drops as it feels very smooth in the eye). He just keeps them in his bat bag in the dugout. Hope this helps!
