I typically don't do this, but I feel what happened to us should be known as we have heard it has happened before. Here's the issue: The field of teams for this partibular tourney had 14 teams. 2 brackets of 4 and 1 of 6. it was a standard format where each team was going to play 3 games and the best teams move on. Now here's where it gets tricky. The 3 winners of each bracket obviously move on and, according to the posted rules, the wild card team is based on record and runs allowed. We were in a 4 team bracket. Friday night games were canceled due to rain so the teams went down to 2 games instead of 3. We went 2-0 allowing 1 run in each game. We actually had coaches telling us we had the wild card wrapped up because of what was going on in the other brackets. Well as we were waiting to see the play-off brackets posted, a parent tells us we are in the consolation game. So we figured maybe another team was 2-0 with only 2 runs allowed and it may have come down to a flip of a coin (which is fine as we have seen that happen..not much one can do). Much to our surprise, a team that had allowed 5 runs was given the wild card spot (local team that came out of the 6 team bracket). needless to say we were shocked. The POSTED rule stated runs allowed. Not sure what happened. When we talked to the manager, they told us a decision to take the wild card team from the bracket of 6 was made before the tourney started (that was never posted). To which I asked, then how do I get into the bracket of 6???
We have had very good experiences with Baseball Heaven...up to now. Be careful and if you are a coach going there...get rules clarification...up front and in writing....before you start the tourney or spend the cash.
