our JV team is very young. we have 4 frsh who have never played, and a kid from germany that has never played either. 2 1/2 weeks isnt much time to catch them up to the intricacies of baseball. one of our new frsh was excited about the idea of going to first on a third strike. he just didnt know that it had to be on a third strike. so on the first, yes first, strike, the catcher drops it, he takes off to first. the catcher overthrows first and the runner that was on second (me) was going to third anyway on a steal and goes home on the overthrow. after discussion, the umps send the batter back and resume with the count. the run i score stands.
many parents and coaches of the other team were absolutely irrate that the run counted.
WAS THIS THE RIGHT CALL?
im sure its better than their suggestion that we are cheating and to throw us out, or at least to call the batter out.
