I know Gonzaga plays in the West Coast Conference. They had a very good year in 2009, and struggled a little in 2010. I know that their baseball facility is nice and relatively new. Can anyone give me any information on the school, the coaching staff, and the Spokane Community? Any insight from locals, or parents that have kids attending would be greatly appreciated.

I think Gonzaga's down year was an anomoly. To begin with, it is a great school and the baseball facilities are first class. There is a "sky bridge" across from the school to the indoor hitting and pitching facility which Bum, Jr. visited dozens of times for training in the winter. (No, he doesn't play there.) That training facility will ensure your son is ready come Spring.

Is your son a pitcher? Steve Bennett, their pitching coach, is a fantastic instructor. The best pitching coach Bum, Jr. has ever had.

I currently live in Las Vegas but spent 21 years in Spokane. It is definitely cool --even cold-- in the Spring in Spokane but they have great Summers and Falls. The town is very family-friendly, and just the right size for your son to thrive (about 205,000 residents).

If your son is being recruited to Gonzaga, it should be close to the top of your list of schools. If he is just on a "list" for a prospect camp, be careful though as they are famous for stacking these camps to subsidize the non-prospects. Overall though, if your son is talented, it is a great choice. Good luck.

Bum,

Thank you for the reply, it's much appreciated. My son has not been invited to any camps, however he's spoken with Coach Evans a couple of times on the phone. Coach Evans is interested in bringing in my son as a possible two-way player. The process has just begun, so we'll see how everything turns out over the next month or so...Thanks again!
