TPM, I realize you can't reprint the article here, but is there any chance you could elaborate for the benefit of those who don't have a subscription?

Regarding changes in recruiting rules and the draft and follow being eliminated, both have affected the way JUCO coaches are recruiting, changes have turned into positives for their programs. Many times I suppose they often relied on talent from draft and follow.

The jist I got is that players who might have been going to larger conferences (in this case they used the ACC and SEC), may now only have options at mid majors (because of new rules).

The JUCO coaches approach now is, you can keep your dream alive playing at a major program, using 2 years to develop into the player that these type of schools recruit for.

The article was basically about Jupiter and scouting the 2008 and 2009 prep class for potential draft picks, with this being a few paragraphs regarding recruiting.

In my own opinion, don't settle for the smaller D1 , use a good JUCO program to develop you into those larger programs. All D1 schools will still be around in 2 years, but you may have more choices coming from a good JUCO program.

There will be a definite advantage to JC,D11 et if the rules remain intact.
However the Pros draft from all levels and education should be the most important aspect.

et me make a clarification to settling.

Many players now adays have potential D1 talent, asked to walk on or might get passed over due to new rules.
My comment was directed to those who might find themselves in that situation, where JUCO, or another program they can grow and have teh option later of going to either the school of their dreams or a D1 program. Once you choose the D1, if rules stick, you con't have a choice but to sit if you want to transfer.

And BHD is correct education should be #1, but I get the impression more players choose a school for baseball than academics.
