Congratulations to VWC and Bridgewater...there are quite a few USA conference and Capital Conference supporters out there who probably think they are upsets...well there not...ODAC has becomes a very competative conference. The only conference with two teams in the regionals.

Congrats to the Virginia schools and USA South folks!

Seniors at CNU still tell stories about CNU's trip to the D III World Series, and while it may not be on ESPN, it is a first class, high cotton affair, with the players treated like royalty.

Success in the post-season is great, and for the schools that didn't get there, post season success for conference schools heightens the conference's reputation making those at large bids more likely in future years.
DIII South Region NCAA Update:

Let me start out and say it was not VWC's day. They lost 17-5 after getting behind 6-0 in the first inning. The boys of VWC, however, are not down but p....sed off. This was the sediment I saw and heard after the game.

VWC plays tomorrow at 10 a.m. against the loser of the NCWC and Bridgewater that is being played at this time.

In the first game today, Salisbury U. came from behind to win 9 to 7 against Emory U. Emory was ahead most of the game. Going into to the last two innings Emory was ahead 7 to 3.
NCAA DIII South Region Update:

I just left the game between NCWC and Bridgewater. It is in the bottom of the 9th with NCWC winning 7 to 4. With one out, BC scored one and had runners on 1B and 2B with a pitching change taking place. BC had a lot of momentum. At that time the umpires stopped play due to lightening. When I left the skies opened up. There are no lights on Bauer Field. I'm not sure the game is complete or they continue tomorrow???

VWC does not know who they play.
NCAA South Region Update:

North Carolina Wesleyan defeated Bridgewater 7 to 5. The game resumed this morning.

VWC vs. Bridgewater today at 1 p.m. The winner plays again in the 4 p.m. contest.

As far as lights, you read me right, there are no lights at NCWC for the region tournament. I believe, and it is consistant with how long it took the NCAA to announce the venue, that no one stepped up to put a bid into host the South Region. Nearing the dead line NCWC stepped up to be the host. I commend NCWC for putting together a team of volunteers to host this tournament, which has been running very smoothly thus far. In fact, NCWC is very accommodating, friendly and they prepare the field faster than I've seen at the pro minor league parks. Bauer Field is a very nice complex and fan friendly.
2006 NCAA South Region Update:

VWC lost out last evening to NCWC by a score of 9 to 5 after beating an outstanding Bridgewater College team in the first game 5 to 2, which was headlined by Chris Rivera's excellent pitching performance.

My hat is off to NCWC. They put the pressure on VWC early in the first inning by scoring 4 runs and fought off several VWC come back attempts. VWC never gave up. Rowan U. must beat NCWC twice to win the championship.

As we all know, being eliminated from a post season tournament is hard enough, however, an even tougher reality sets in for the senior players on a team. I reflected on this when VWC eliminated BC. I say good luck to Bridgewater's senior class because they did show a lot of class.

However, my heart sank when it was my son's time to end his college baseball career. Yes, tears did come from the senior parents and players. Now, it is a reality. As you all will do, I now look back on a wonderful career that few player ever get a chance to experience. Michael's career starts and ends with being a starter for 4 years and playing in every college game his teams participated in. It also included winning two Maryland JUCO conference championships, two JUCO regional XX championships, and one JUCO DII world series apparence. Then you add one ODAC conference championship with VWC. Combine this with one all tournament team selection for the Region XX DII JUCO and one all tournament team ODAC selection award. He had a great run.

After all of this, it is this year that stands out as his best year. From my perspective, the highs and lows of this season made this team stong, tough and resolve, and prepared VWC's young players for future success. It was truely a team effort by all of the players and coaches. Again, my hat is off. This time to Coach Boothe, Francis, Loyd and Elliot. This season showed the resolve of these coaches and their incredible ability to work through everything that came their way. Coach Boothe could have given up very easily. For this and many other situation for two years, I say thank you to these coaches and both Mike and I are very fortunate to have been a part of their program.

Enough said!
