Hello;
We are honored to become a sponsor of the high school baseball web site.

In the next 30 days I will select 36 American players ages 16-18 for our two American Teams. The pro scouts will recommend players, who have the physical tools and mental courage to play against the Japan National Team, maybe the best team of 16-18 year old players in the World. Each Japan player has played in front of 40,000 people each game and on TV to 40 million.

This is our 22 year of competition with Japan. 40% of our American players, since 1983, have played or are now playing in the Major Leagues.

The American Team East will play two games August 31 in Cooperstown, NY.

The American Team West will play three games in Los Angeles September 2-3-4.[Labor Day weekend].

If you have a player to recommend, please open our web site <www.goodwillseries.org> and have the player complete a player profile or e-mail direct. Pitchers - how would you pitch to Ichiro? Hitters - how do you hit the perfect slider on the corner?

Please have a great day!

Bob,

Welcome again, as a new sponsor of this forum.

WOW, I already knew a little about your teams that play overseas, but that is amazing to think about their competition! 40,000 fans typically watching the Japan 16-18 team in person, and 40 million on TV. Obviously, that's a lot bigger crowd than many of our MLB games. Eek

What are the young Japanese players like? Are they all hoping to become MLB players one day, or do many of them go on to play professional ball in Japan?

The Japan HS player's dream is to play in the Summer Tournament at Koshien Stadium in Osaka. This tournament is now in the 84th year and played each year in mid August.

There are 48 prefectures [States] and in JUly they begin their Regional playoffs in HS Stadiums that seat 20,000. The winners in each prefectures are invited to Koshien.

Before each game all pitchers are X-ray for any injury to shoulders or elbow. The pre game warm-up for each are supervise by special physical trainers. After the game there is 30 minute "cool down" period of exercises.

Then to the interview room for the best player of each team by 30 press reporters from all Japan newspapers. Several major newspapers have 12 million daily readers.

We will continue to select American players who can compete with the Japan National Team.
