When jerseyson brought his transcripts home to send to a couple of schools I noticed that they have to two cumulative grade averages listed in the transcript. One GPA was weighted and the other is non-weighted. Do colleges use the weighted or non-weighted GPA?

Which GPA should we put on the questionnaires?

Catch15 - The only reason we are sending the transcript is because the schools requested us to do so. Sounds like both ways are appropriate.

So it sounds like the consensus is to use the weighted GPA. If we put do use the weighted GPA on the questionnaires should we identify the GPA as weighted? I would hate for anyone to think we were doing any false advertising.
jerseydad - In the end, it won't matter. They'll calculate it themselves from the transcript...and they may calculate it differently than your son's HS or even you would.

Catch15 - Many schools asked us to send our son's transcript ourselves. As long as its an authorized (signed) copy from the HS it serves their purposes fine for now. I had our son's HS Vice-Principal sign a dozen or so for just this purpose. Never a problem with any of it.
There is nothing dishonest anout using a weighted GPA. It is calculation based on the degree of difficulty of the course work.

GPA #1 - 3.5 - includes PreCal, AP chemistry and biology, Honors English and History

GPA #2 - 3.5 - Includes Basket weaving, book binding, and hog tying.

When they look at the transcript they will see what the course work is. Use the weighted GPA - that's why it is there.

Sorry Redhead, you hit kind of close to home on that one. (you do know I was kidding right?)

While I currently live in Jersey, I too am from that humble peasant stock you mentioned; I am actually a native of the Commonwealth of Kentucky. (Kentucky Colonel wannabe) I happen to be a former member of the Future Farmers of America and 4H Club (can’t remember what the 4 H’s stand for, a little help Lafmom?), so I was rather skilled in some of the things you listed. And proud of it I might add!

Don't forget:
1. Cow tipping
2. Mucking stalls
3. Hunting for Snip (you can hold the bag)

I guess you can take a boy out of the country but you can't take the country out of the boy!

Yes - Except where I was from we went to "the show". That slips out now and then - I was thrilled to hear my next door neighbor (who grew up in Wichita Falls) say the same thing. Also, we "fix supper" as opposed to "cooking dinner". If I am planning to purchase food, it would translate to "fixin' to go to the store." Simple!
