Congrats to Coach Shaun Todd and the Grassfield Grizzlies for defeating Great Bridge 2-1 in 8 inning on Friday.

For the 2nd game this season, they outplayed GB and pulled it out this time.

Nice win. Who pitched for Grassfield? Was it Cody Cox?

Grassfield 2, Great Bridge 1

Brennan Iley knocked in John Waller in the eighth inning as the Grizzlies upended the No. 4 Wildcats Friday.

Jason Inghram allowed a run through six innings and Cody Cox tossed two scoreless innings in relief.

Cox started the rally in the final frame with a lead-off single.

Grassfield 2, #4 Great Bridge 1, 8 innings
Great Bridge 000 100 00 — 1 1 1
Grassfield 000 100 01 — 2 6 2
W—Cox (1-0). L—McCarthy.

Congrats goes out to Cody and Grassfield; big win for the new school.
Cox came in relief more or less because he was one of the last fresh arms. He pitched himself in trouble in the top of the 8th by walking a hitter who stole 2nd on his high leg kick and then walking Parrish. A hard hit ball to 3B Greg Millner (soph) was smothered for the 3rd out.

Cody could be pretty good but he needs to work harder.

Obviously the Cox boy doesn't play for your Wildcats!

06/07 14U/15U Richmond Braves
04/05 12U/13U Performance Baseball

Started the 12U National Championship game. He left after 3 innings trailing 2-0; relieved by Kyle Lawhorn (4 shutout innings) Performances loses 2-0.
Twice Performance had the bases loaded once with one out and the other with no outs and failed to score. Lose to the previous years National Champions
Greenville Gators(SC) 2-0. (Performance would defeat Greenville the following year in round-robin play 5-0 in Myrtle Beach on the Pelicans field)

He played several years for Blake Hanks (Hickory's Jake Hanks uncle) on Virginia Cannons.

Caught up with Cody last year, he looked around 6'3" rapidly approaching 6'4"; he could probably use a few pounds.

Great kid and family.

Agree, big, strong and fast. He could hit and with power, but man could he fly around those bases.

Son played with Ryan(Complete Game)in a tournament
up in Richmond last year; Ryan played CF and pitched.

I hope he's OK.

I am just being very honest. Ask the coaches at Grassfield and they will tell you the exact same thing.

Heck, ask Cody what the coaching staff has been on him about since he joined the program. Also, ask him how many innings he has thrown this year. I think Grassfield played 3-4 games that week. After Waller and Ingrahm, they don't have many innings on other pitchers.

While he may be the top arm on the Braves, he is not there yet for Grassfield.

Redbird,

You might be confused with another player, Rian doesn't have ankle or hammy problems. He was misdiagnosed with a shoulder injury when he was playing Varsity football (starter middle LB) with Great Bridge this past fall. He had been playing hurt (shoulder) for a few games this baseball season. He is now on the IR after his surgery and everything is going fine, he should be ready to go in the fall -possibly late summer. He is the same player that played on Complete Game and the Drillers.

redbird,

No problem about the post, he works hard and wants to do well to help his teammates.

Cody's s-dad told me during one of the games.

B / TTTA,

I agree about Rian. I was out at many practices and witnessed Rian helping his teammates as much as he could. I know Shaun values him.

Cody's velocity looked decent against GB. I know the staff could use another arm.
