What I find so exciting in this article is that a seasoned manager, Davie Johnson, says the kid has big league stuff.  That's got to make the whole justbaseball family feel good... this goes to show that it can take years of grinding before dreams become reality...

CD,

Thank you very much for posting this article about Erik, the route he has taken and where he is now in terms of being on the cusp of standing on that mound getting to throw his first pitch in MLB.

For so many reasons, some of which go back to discussions 7-8 years ago with justbb over a pitcher () at the Dutch Goose, reading this article is a terrific start to my day!

CD, thanks for posting this...I know justbb isn't one to shine a light on his own however it sure is nice seeing his boy shine...looking forward to watch him continue his march to the show.

By the way if you can find the audio interview the Syracuse Chiefs did with Erik this week its a hoot!  March on E...march on.

Obviously things change over time.  This article (thanks CD) really caught my eye right at the beginning. Tyler Clippard, Christian Garcia, Erik Davis, we had seen all three when they were in HS and have followed them since.  Garcia actually converted to pitching... Great arm!  Clippard has simply amazed us by how much he improved after HS in the minor leagues.  But there is no doubt in my mind that in HS Erik Davis was by far the best pitching prospect of the three. Maybe that will still happen in the future. BTW, those three had something else in common... They were all great kids. Still are, I would guess.

It just goes to show how close the talent level is between those in the Big Leagues and those trying to get there.  Yes, sometimes it takes just a touch of luck and the whole world changes.

I find myself pulling for several HSBBW sons, I hope they get that opportunity and make the most of it.  Some are so very close.  And at this point it doesn't make any difference if they participated in PG events or not in HS. It's more a HSBBW thing and I'm sure not alone pulling for these guys.

This is where you get past things like jealousy or thinking someone is out to get you. Once people get to this point, they have no excuses and don't blame others.  Even though they might compete for a position, they have no problem acknowledging the other guys talent.  All the little petty complaints just don't fit.

Sometimes young or inexperienced just don't get it.  I remember people saying Justin Upton was over rated.  Yet their son was under rated.  Same goes for Bryce Harper, Jason Heyward, and many others.  It's funny what you actually see when you have no preconceived thoughts.

Sorry for getting off track.

Thanks to you all.  Truthfully, I'd probably be a little more comfortable with this thread not being here...but I woulda done the same for the other kids on this site.  So thank you CD!

Cannot say enough that I genuinely appreciate the very kind words and thoughts.

PGStaff nailed it.  We root for all of these kids whether its in HS, college or beyond.  Probably all of our kids have faced adversity...all of the posters on this thread...have kids who have or are facing things just as tough (or tougher) than my son.  But they do it because they love it.  Sounds cliche, but its the truth.

I will share one more thought on this topic...that I think some others can appreciate whether it be college, minor league or major league ball.  While it seems he may be close to 'the dream,' I can tell you that the closer it 'seems' to become, the farther away it feels like it really is...to me at least.  He seems to be pretty comfortable in his own skin right now and thats really the main thing a parent can be happy about.

Again, thank you!

What an insight.

I think he is a little bit closer than you may think he is. Objectively speaking, of course...
