Umpires often get a bad rap - but many youth umpires are involved for the love of the kids and the game. Two umpire stories were posted in the Temper issue thread and it made me wish more people would post their stories about umpires that did the right thing - went the extra mile - or took full advantage of "teachable moments" with our young or not so young players. Here is your chance!

When in little league there was one umpire I will neverr forget. He was probably 17 or 18 when I first started playing little league at 8 or 9. He umpired all of the big games throughout my little league up until I was about 12. As a catcher him and I had a very good relationship and I learned a lot as a player during that time. From what I remember he always had control of the game and never let the parents have a role in the game... besides spectating. He is the type of umpire I'd want my kids toexperience when that day comes.
