1 out ball hit to to our SS he flips to 2B covering, 2b then continues his momenttum in toward 3b and attemps throw to complete play but is upended by R1 who has taken a path about two foot offline to break up the play. Goes in with high spikes. Our 2B is injured on play and out of the game. Blue correctely calls both runners out but shouldn't there be an ejection?

Big brouhaha ensued almost to the point of coaches fighting.

Simple answer is emphatically YES, toss him. This needs to be brought to the attention of the ADs from both schools if this is school ball.

Even if "Pro Rules" I can't think of any leagues from American Legion downward that would handle this any differently.

Not being there, I will assume there is not a second version of this story. That being the case, I have two outs and at least two ejections.
this was a 14U game played under FED.
The umpires never saw or heard the two coaches that nearly went at it they were busy elsewhere.
Funny later (much later) that evening as we were walking to the car after losing the championship game (nearly 3 hours) a 13U game was still going on and two coaches there were on the verge of sqaring off. We were too tired to stay and watch so I'm not sure how it resolved.
While I don't agree with the high spikes part, I don't see nothing wrong with trying to break up a double-play. As long as the baserunner can touch the base. Nothing is done about it down here in high school. See it all the time.
Da-mn Jimmy, you would eject the first base coach on his first step to the field? That seems a little much. I agree the kid that slid with his spikes high would get the first and only boot. I'd try to calm the two coaches down first. Maybe the coaches didn't know the kid was gonna do that, but to eject a coach just for stepping on the field is way overboard.

You have unusual priorities. You want the kids to play like big boys, but you want an adult assistant coach to be babied.

By rule, the assistant has no rights to step on the field and approach an umpire, question a play or state his opinion. I'll listen to head coach anytime, but the assistant is history if he doesn't follow the rules.

This had been a point of emphasis in high school ball. But, seeing how your umpires allow illegal slides, perhaps the don't use high school rules. Oh, wait...this is also covered by OBR. They must be making their own rules down there.

Slightly offtopic, but..

Wearing proper uniforms has been a Point of Emphasis in basketball too. In Illinois this year, there was a team who was penalized for it only in the State Tournament. Every other game, the officials did not assess the technical foul as indicated in the rules.. Point being: Just because it is a "PoE" doesn't mean it really is emphasized.

That would depend largely on the quality of the officiating organization.
