Da-mn Jimmy, you would eject the first base coach on his first step to the field? That seems a little much. I agree the kid that slid with his spikes high would get the first and only boot. I'd try to calm the two coaches down first. Maybe the coaches didn't know the kid was gonna do that, but to eject a coach just for stepping on the field is way overboard.
You have unusual priorities. You want the kids to play like big boys, but you want an adult assistant coach to be babied.
By rule, the assistant has no rights to step on the field and approach an umpire, question a play or state his opinion. I'll listen to head coach anytime, but the assistant is history if he doesn't follow the rules.
This had been a point of emphasis in high school ball. But, seeing how your umpires allow illegal slides, perhaps the don't use high school rules. Oh, wait...this is also covered by OBR. They must be making their own rules down there.
