My son has been working very hard during the winter with another teammate of his. They have been doing abs, legs, long toss and lots of batting. Today we had our first real double header and last week a rainy attempt at a game. Both players are now batting well over .500 and Zack has 3 HRs in 3 games. Both pitched and did well on the mound too. Looks like all the hard work in the "off-season" will pay off. Needless to say, I am proud of them both and think they may have learned quite a lesson about benefits of hard work.

BBFAM,

Congrats, I have personally watched my son sacrifice alot of time in the off-season so he can get better. Not only does this apply to baseball but it will apply in grades, school, college, work, etc. While everyone else is playing Xbox and surfing the net, your kid was working on his craft. Be proud but also know that what he did in the off-season was something you should be the most proud of.

Congrats!!!!

BBFam, Congratulations! goodI agree with the other posters. Players have to learn as they get older there are certain things they can control and certain things they cannot control. Many times the focus is put on those uncontrollable factions of their game and they tend to look for excuses and to point fingers ---- and in the process they fail to get better. I think this is a learned approach to the game and it almost always taught by the parents. I tip my hat to you because you have taught your son that hard word does pay off.

I guess we have our first outdoor scrimmage tomorrow! The kids are all excited but the dads just can't seem to get excited about baseball! NOT!!! Really now, ya didn't think I was serious, I mean cmon man. I think we like it just as much as the boys and sometimes we take it way too serious, it's just a game! The kids are going to make mistakes,(I STILL DO) we just need to let them know how to do it the correct way kindly if they don't know what they've done wrong. Too many times I see kids playing their hearts out and getting yelled at in angry tones for mistakes that even adults make. I want my son to leave it all on the field, but he's just a kid, he's human and he's not perfect. All you can do is give it your best shot and the force is not always with you. Can't wait! jumping

IB - we're in that tourney too but our division looks like it's bigger and maybe even stronger than yours. Eek By the way, the 13u Bulldogs are in our pool and (assuming the weather holds) my son gets the start against them. He's played them a few times before so he's looking forward to it.

We had a scrimmage scheduled for tonight but they cancelled it because of the @#$%^&^* SNOW!!! pull_hair

IB - You're a pice of work pal!!! Looking forward to seeing ya sooner or later.

I'm not sure if there's a website or not but I've got the bracket for the entire tourney. I'll e-mail it to you if you PM me your address because I don't think I've got it. Assuming the weather holds, they play at 6:00 Saturday so you'll be long gone by then!
IB - The kid is itching to get out there and play tonight! This morning before school he was telling us he hoped it's not rained out then said ...."I wonder how many HR I'll hit this weekend?"....with a straight face too. After his mom and gathered our composure from laughing so hard, I said "Let's work on getting some solid AB's before you worry about going yard, OK?"

If it gets rained out tonight ( cry ) I'm guessing we'll play early tomorrow and I'll probably see you then. Actually, you have a way of sneaking up on me so just make sure to say hi.
WE FINALLY PLAYED OUR FIRST GAME! Sorry about the yelling, I guess I was a little excited. Temp got all the way up to 39 but it was very windy and we had standing water down both foul lines, also in right and left fields. The poor guys taking care of the field had to work their tails off to get the fields ready. They said they had 2" of rain over night. We got there before 7 am for an 8:00 game and didn't play until 1:00. The field was rough and very soft, the dugouts were open and I had no place to hide from the cold wind cutting through clothes.(I should have dressed warmer!) BUT WE GOT TO PLAY!! There I go with the yelling again. We won 11-5 and play at 1:00 today again.
Got to see our good friend Beez but my little guy was getting tired and cranky from being up since 5 am so we finally left around 7:40 pm and took our 1hr ride home. My son went 3-4 with an easy triple in his last at bat so he was pretty pleased with the way the game went.
It's always a pleasure to see IB and IB Jr. (well....IB Jr. 2). After his long day, they were going to stick around to watch Beez Jr's start on the mound. But unfortunately, he got bumped to "relief" so they understandably (and luckily) headed for their WARM car. You missed a pretty good game IB. We lost 1-0.

How did the A's fair today? We lost the 2nd and bowed out gracefully 11-10.
Well, the little guy went 8-11 with 2 triples for the tourney, pitched 5 innings in relief (max allowed per game) and gave up 1 unearned run and we came back from being down 8-1 to winning the semi final. Alas, it was only good enough for second place as we lost the championship 12-9 and I thought he was going to snap his trophy in half when they gave it to him. I could tell right away he was not happy with his trophy and on the way home he said he hated it! Poor kid has a few things to learn, 2nd place is pretty darn good. He gave it his best shot, had an awesome tourney, BE HAPPY!!
Beez, wish I could have stayed to watch your game, but I was stuck with the cranky little guy and he was ready to go home. I'll catch another of your games, hopefully when it's warmer! bye
Nothing But Baseball from the Butler Newcastle PA area. We gave up 8 runs in the 6th, pull_hair they were putting the bat on the ball and we found out that a few of our players couldn't play the positions we tried put them in.(square peg in a round hole deal) They were great when we put them where they were suited to play. Hopefully we'll see them somewhere down the road and get to play them again.
Yea EG, looks like great fun for you guys, after the way we played this past weekend we're going to need to bring a few of the local HS players to even give you guys a game! I am anxious to get a look at your team though, I'm thinking we probably aren't ready for a team of that caliber yet,(give us about 10 yrs) But baseball is a funny game sometimes so maybe we'll get lucky and go the full 7 but I'm not holding my breath. Eek See ya Sat. bye
