I attended a showcase camp in oct 2010. A college coach called me the same night of the camp and told me that he had rated me the best outfielder at the showcase and that he was extremely interested in recruiting me. So we emailed back and forth until sometime in december. In the coaches last email he stated that he would be in contact with me within the new year. I have not heard back from the coach in any way shape or form, what could this possibly mean?

There could be a number of reasons why this has happened.

When my son went through the process last summer and fall there were a number of coaches who just dropped of the planet after calling and e-mailing on a regular basis. Even after reaching out to them there was no further contact. This included some who had indicated that there was an offer forthcoming the next week.

Another scenario that happen to him was that late last summer a number of coaches 'heard' that he had committed to a different school which wasn't the case and stopped all communications with him. Only after he called them and found out the story did they begin contact again.
Honestly, he is not interested and I would just move on. People tend to paint the rosier picture and that's a bunch of ****. Move on and the heck with that coach and that's ok. Just don't start pleading and begging,,,not that you would mind you, but i've seen it before and if they want you they will come calling with some major full-court press.
over 30 years in Sales tells me that there are usually only 3 reasons why someone isn't calling you back.

1. personal emergency (not likely in this scenario)

2. not important, not interested or very, very low priority

3. there's something they don't want to tell you
( we like someone else, we already have our guys, etc, etc)
