I think they had a problem with pitching. I was told by a HF rep that they used to have pitchers throw to twelve batters on day 1 (starting with a 1-1 count, but still) and then twelve batters on day 2, and a lot of the pitchers didn't shine on day 2 (or, declined to pitch on day 2). Now it is six batters day 1 and twelve batters day 2.

Smoke, as an experienced HeadFirst-er, what do the kids do for lunch? There's an old HSBBW thread (>10 years ago) talking about how lunch is provided . . . but is that still the case?

Interesting that they are in both Sac and Woodland now.

I've been to both venues. I can't remember what if anything you can buy at Woodland, but the snackbar at Sacramento is just sad, and nearby food options are very limited at both locations so I'd advise taking the time to buy food elsewhere before you go, or just drop you player and go shopping.

Hmmm...it has been pitchers throwing to 10 batters each day for the past few years.  And deciding not to throw was very very difficult despite arm soreness as you look wimpy!  Most boys throw anyway, and many should not.  HF makes a big speech about how the coaches know your velocity is lower etc and it is not a big deal but actually it is.

Still think Headfirst is a good value Smoke?  Do hitters start with a 1-1 count in their AB's?

I don't mean to sound cheeky but if the boy does well and someone likes him, then it'll be a good value.  Headfirst's selling points are tough to beat (as are Showball's and, while I know some won't agree, Stanford's).  Just the sheer quantity of schools there that are seriously looking for talent is pretty impressive.  The Headfirst/Stanford Combo two years ago worked wonders for my 2017.  He didn't get exactly what he wanted (an ivy) but he got what he may have needed (a high quality academic D3 with what so far has been a high quality, winning baseball program where he started about 80% of the time).  His future college coaches were in the dugout for one of his HF games which was pure luck, and then they followed him at Stanford a couple days later and made a point of connecting with him there.  Hoping for the same type of experience for 2019.

Am not sure of 1-1 counts but expect it to be the case.

Son attended Headfirst in Woodland, CA last year.  Bring sunscreen and a lot of water.  There is a taco wagon that sells food/drink including Gatorade.  Offsite, there is food about 2-5 minutes away depending on what you are looking for.  Its Norcal in the summer, which means it is hot.  Fields are artificial turf so that doesn't help.  I would advise parents to bring their own shade.  Lots of interaction with coaches.  Many great speeches.  About 4-8 coaches watching every game.  Timed 60 and exit speed off the tee.  Coaches bring their own guns and share with other coaches.  Fans can walk up and see radar speeds over their shoulder if they want.  Best opening line by MIT coach prior to his talk to players...."Anybody here good at math?"
