This may be the antithesis of boasting....I wonder if there is any point in attending the Head First Honor Roll academic camp if my son is a fairly average student? He has a 3.3 gpa at a very good school and his PLAN forcasts him to get about a 24-25 on the ACT. I am not sure how he ended up on the list for Headfirst.....with his grades, is there any point to going? Thanks for your input before I spend any money.

Cali,

All depends if money/scholarship/academic or athletic is required for your situation. If you are likely to receive Financial Aid as part of your future tuition payments, it might be a good idea.

Check out the list of schools likely to attend a Head First Showcase. Then, identify which are patriot league or ivy, which offer no athletic aid - only financial aid. Some schools do offer merit aid, but those attending Head First showcases are unlikely to see a student of your son's academic standing as a merit aid-recipient.

My son had a bit better ACT score, and similar gpa. He received a large merit scholarship from a D1 school in a major city that would not have attended headfirst, but still offers a personal reputable education.
Dear Calisportsfan,

Echoing fenwaysouth - we'd be more than happy to speak with you about your son's specific situation and see whether or not attending one of our events would be worthwhile.

Generally speaking, a student need not be a competitive applicant at Harvard, Stanford or MIT to get significant value from our camps. That said, we are not in the business of encourage folks to attend if they are unlikely to get something out of it.

Please give us a call anytime at (202) 625-1921 or email us directly at showcase@playheadfirst.com.

Best of luck,
