Hi fellow webbers,
My son, an '08 pitcher, received an invitation to Headfirst Honor Roll Academic Baseball Showcases either in Richmond, VA in Aug. or in Nov. in Jupiter, FLA. According to their letter of invitation, this is a showcase where the invitees names have been furnished by the college coaches who will participate in the event, and that (supposedly) that coach is "closely following your (invitee) high school career to date." Again, according to their letter, this showcase is primarily an event where coaches have seen the player and will be evaluating and recruiting them at the event. Hate to be a cynic, but does anyone here have experience with Headfirst Baseball? The schools listed are actually the primary schools my son is extremely interested in, including N.D., U. of Virginia, several Ivy League schools, etc. My son has been invited to a Perfect Game showcase last year and is getting ready to attend another one this year and we feel they're the king of the hill and are extremely pleased with PG. I guess my question is, how do the Headfirst events compare with PG, or is that perhaps not a fair question--would this be trying to compare apples and oranges? Any info on Headfirst would be greatly appreciated. They sound completely legitimate, but I've just seen too many webbers attend other showcases that looked good, only to find out they weren't.

Thank you,
Blue Skies

My son 05 attended the one in Jupiter for 3 years. Extremely well run, there is nothing to buy, no one will sell you anything. Their staff runs the showcase portion while the college coaches evaluate. Then in the afternoon games are coached by the college coaches. Great experience for the kids. Perfectgame Academic got their idea from Headfirst.

Every school they said would be there was there. There is a Q & A session after it's over with the college coaches.

My son was recruited by several schools as a result of attending. Even though he ended up at a school that was not there, I still would recommend this showcase without any hesitation. Good luck and enjoy.
My son attended last year's Head First showcase in Jupiter. It was the best showcase he has attended. College coaches were there and very accessible. Time was set aside for coaches to make short presentations about their programs and most welcomed parents and kids stopping them to ask questons between the games, at lunches, etc. Many top academic colleges were there. The only complaint I have heard recently was from a college coach he said he was a little concerned that it was getting too big-that there were too many good kid for him to evaluate in the space of 2 days. He was hoping HeadFirst would cap the number of kids they accepted at a lower number than they had last year. He was still going there though. In short-it was Very well run and many great schools are there.
