I'm trying to figure out if wording on son's recent write up is good or bad; he's a catcher so I think it relates to his POP?  "Gains positive ground towards second base."  I tried looking at other write ups and googling it, but I'm not sure if this is a positive comment or a negative one?  Just when I think I've got this baseball thing figured out, I'm reminded what a newb I am.

I'm also having the internal struggle with sending him to a PG event...if any of you knowledgeable folks have PBR logins and are willing to watch his video and give me honest feedback, I'd appreciate it.  Just shoot me a PM.  He's a 2017 and starting to get a little interest but they definitely are not beating down the doors.

Well, I don't like to try to interpret what others say too often in their evaluations - but in this case I would take it as a positive.

One of the things that detracts from a catcher's effectiveness in throw downs to 2nd is when they let their body momentum take them in a direction other than directly at 2nd base.

Some guys have poor footwork and lose momentum to the left for example. If your momentum is taking you away from your target, it's not possible to maximize your velocity on the throw.

In your son's write up I would take it as saying he keeps his momentum going in the correct direction.

Should definitely be a good thing. If a catcher is gaining negative ground that is bad and if they are gaining no ground they better have a cannon. Moving directly at your target helps velo and control from behind the dish. The only way I could see this as a bad thing is if it is taking away from the pop time to get that extra ground (slow feet to drive into the throw). But I feel like that would be noted on the evaluation if that was the case.

Thanks for the replies!  I go from thinking "it's too early to worry about the recruiting game" to "holy crap!  He's so far behind!"  He's not in the top 1% stud category, so he's going to need to do some work.

I'm waiting for travel coach to get back to me with an honest assessment, then we're going to sit down and son will need to get a list of schools ready to start contacting.
