Ball: bat didn't cross the plane nor attempt a swing. Batter needs to get a grip ;')

Oops! I forgot. I'd say it's a ball. Doesn't meet the criteria for a strike without the bat. (Why do I have a sneaking suspicion there's a ruling out there on this that I don't know about?)

If they ever put the boundries of a check swing in writing I'd be the first to clip it out and post it to my wall. Seems to be the one area of diversity in all of Umpiring, did he go? Even at the ML level you see the replays and man, that guy didn't intend to swing, but "yes he did".
