Same JV game, relatively new umpires. At the plate conference, home coach says "everything behind the short protective fence infront of the dugout is dead includiong brick dugout exterior and fascia."

Around inning 3 a throw to first deflects off F3's glove and goes OVER the dugout fascia hitting the field fence directly behind the dugout. The ball bounces off and lands in fair territory near the pitcher's mound.

Everywhere else, balls hitting that fence are live and played. The umpires questioned one another as to whether the anyhing breaking the plane of the "short fence" should be dead, or, since the ball went over the dugout with touching it, it should remain live.

Hopefully, you can get a mental picture of all this.
