Towny's speech was incredible. I looked at a good friend of mine after the speech and we could only say "Wow!" too each other. It was great because the whole place was quiet when he started speaking.

I know Towny had a few notes but he didn't look at them until near the end. I am fairly confident it was off the top of his head.

I agree, everytime I hear the Jim Valvano speech it is very sad yet is very motivational.

Most of Towny's speech was right from his head and his heart. To my knowledge it was not written anywhere, but I believe the company that did the production and video work for the Towny Townsend Hitting Disc may have video recorded his banquet speech and may have plans for making it available. I will check and provide a follow up post if I find out.

Towny did an amazing job, but I have learned never to expect anything but the best from him. He is a very gifted individual.

The night of the banquet was very special. Towny was long overdue to win this award. I have heard Towny give his motivational talks before and have always been impressed.
Towny outdid himself.
Not only was it obvious that he loves the game of baseball, it was obvious that he loves life.
Towny, if you are reading this, you are not only a great "baseball man", more importantly you are a wonderful man.

I am sorry I have not been up to responding to the post from those who were present on the night of the ODU banquet. My family and I have just been amazed at the response from all of you from that evening. I wish that I could of stayed and socialized to the late night with all of you..I hit a wall shortly after the speech and family felt that it was time to get me out of there. ODU did a incredible job in it's treatment of me and my family and it was a lifetime moment for the Townsends. I'm still expecting a miracle and believe God is involved with me in my healing. It's great to see spring is here and boy's are off to the ball fields again and the boy's of summer are gearin up play..So many have asked regarding my speech about my closing remarks/statement, here it is...TALENT IS GOD GIVEN BE THANKFUL. FAME IS MAN GIVEN BE HUMBLE, CONCEIT IS SELF GIVEN BE VERY CAREFUL....God bless to all and thanks to so many!!! Towny
