lhp,

I am very familiar with all the teams in the Big South Conference.

High Point is making a genuine effort to upgrade their program - but the fact of the matter is - IMO - the Big South is in trouble.

If Coastal leaves - and with Winthrop headed for a few years of rebuilding after losing key seniors and draft pick juniors and coaches - you only have Birmingham left.

I watched a ton of Big South games this year - and as far as D-1 baseball goes - the quality was generally very poor.

IMO - The bright side of this is that alot of opportunities exist for talented players who are interested in Big South schools.

Good luck with your decisions.
about highpoint,
randy state says it is a bad program.it has been
they will win this year and turn it all around.
coach is great, has a tremendous pitching staff
for this coming year[they were throwing of's by
the end of the season this past year].all 3 freshman starting pitchers are back,3 top jr.
college pitchers & 2 top transferes along with 2
returning lefty's and 3 young h.s.pitchers give
h.p.some of the best arms around.
they played tough for the first two thirds of the season till there pitching staff fell apart due to injuries and suspentions[lost 7 pitchers]

conference is good as seen by coastal hosting a regional and both winthrop and coastal being
rated in the top 25 all year long[winthrop as
went to a regional and birmingham southern was
also a top team all year]
coastal may leave because of football and winthrop [may] be down.however, check out the conference on how they did overall against top
teams early in the season[weekends using rotation against other top teams rotation and
you might be very surprised on how well they all did.
h.p.plays a great schedule every year.they have an excellent recruiting class coming in[b.aguilar-c,j.cowen-ss,a.wheeler-ss,a j.c.&h.s.
of,a transfere 1b]and have already gotten some
great 06 commitments.
as one of the first posters on this topic stated, this program is coming on.they should win the conference this year with the pitching and defence they have[all the coaches know this
is qa team on the rise]knocking this program at this time by the poster[randy] shows he knows
nothing or has an axe to grind.
thank you.
Thanks for all the thoughts. How about a little more discussion about the Big South Conference? They seem to be sort of a "mish-mosh" of smaller public schools, some private schools, some religious schools, etc. The schools seem to have little in common except geography. Some of the schools (like High Point and Charleston Southern) are small enough to be D3. How do they compete?
miami is one of the best teams in the country every year and there not the biggest school in the world.
the big south schools can compete as shown with the outside conference play.you will see that every school[except for ashville]competed with the big conference schools, rotation to rotation[not mid week].
birmingham southern always good,great coach
withrop-has been strong and usually recruits well, they will retool.
coastal-although they lost a lot, still have an excellent recruiting class[especially pitchers.
liberty-good returning group.
vmi-needs some help from underclassmen to be good, has some good kids back.
radford-will be hurting without fleisher.
charleston southern-should be difficult to be anywhere as good as the past year.
ashville-needs help from recruits to survive.

i saw a lot of big south games last year like one of the other posters.i also saw many sec and acc and big 12 games, also a-sun and a number of other teams.the top 6 teams in the big
south this year will be competitive with anybody
these are not teams from the northeast conferences.the difference between the acc and the sec schools from some of the other schools is usually depth and quality of depth.costanzo, carte, slowey etc.could play with any team in the country.

thank you
lady,i saw your son pitch at c.s.hs,the pokers, and for clemson.he is a top of the line pitcher.however, you have no clue.you back up the blind umpire and have never seen highpoint play.they have been very competitive this year against out of conference opponents.at miami, played them tough through 7 the first and third games, went 11 innings the second game.extra innings[weekend]both games, virginia tech, swept ball state[weekend],extra innings loses to wake and unc,one run loss to uncg.beat elon[18-0],gardner-webb,furman,cambell and wofford[twice].i guess they can't win out of conference or compete.m.s.[the angels scout in
s.fla.]will tell you h.p. is,and especially will be a pretty **** good team.i am a little surprised at you jumping on the bandwagon.
j.bags,
If you know who my son is than you know who I am, and you can address me as such. The name is Barbara.

lhpx2 asked a question and here (I see you are new), we try to give the best answers. Many are of opinion. Why would you be surprised that I would answer the question.
However, I checked the schedule last year before I posted the first time, and HP had a 19-36 record, 6 of those wins within conference. They did not even have a .500 record within conference, so I was being kind in my assessment. You also agreed, it has been a bad program!!!!
But Pirate Fan is correct, every year this discussion comes up,
and every year they are in the same situation. For me, there comes a time when a team needs to stop just being competitive and start winning. JMO. I do hope that they can turn it around.
Establishing who you are and how you know so much about the changes in the program, can help to answer the question asked.
