That what I was wondering. If you are not playing, play, listen closely to the coaches, and do what they instruct you to do, don't treat it as a hobby, but treat the game with respect, and if you can play in the off-season, and go to camps, do it.

There are no real secrets, hard work, especially when no one is watching will do wonders for your chances.
I hate to hear a 15 year old make that statement. The reason is your probaly a Soph right? I would want you to know the answer to that question when you were 12. But its not too late but its late. Bust your butt. Hustle everywhere you go. Say yes sir and no sir. Be the first one everywhere you go. Never be on time. Always be early. If you cant outplay the other guys you can always out hustle them. Outwork them. Want it more than the other guys. There is no off season for a real baseball player. There is only months of opportunity to get better in between seasons. Good Luck
Saying "Yes Sir" and "No Sir" I think is great, however it may depend on where he lives. Many coaches from the Northeast may view someone as a wise guy or a butt kisser if they did that during tryouts. I know it is very common place in most other parts of the country and it shows you have respect for the coach. But in the Northeast, people just don't say it. I wish it were common place here.

My best advice, work hard and show the coaches that you improve every day or are working on something that they taught the previous day.

Your ability to listen, learn quickly, and practice hard will show alot about your character.
i agree with Coach C about the "dont say sir in the North east" thing because i never hear kids around here saying yes sir and no sir, it's looked upon as fresh. I am in a similar situation Porkchop, I am 14, next yr im going to go to a hs which has an excellent baseball team, and im working my butt off so I can atleast be on the JV team, i guess just dont give a coach attitude, and try to figure out what position you want to play now and then train for that position, so you can have one place where you feel comfortable.
Maybe the 'Yes Sir - No Sir' is a regional thing. But don't think that the kids are less respectful here, they are just more apt to say Yes Coach, or more often just nod emphatically and then run and do whatever it was they were asked/told to do.

porkchop,

As far as the original posting is concerned, there is a good article on this web site's Main page of articles about making the High School team. You should look it up and read through it, post it in your room at home and work on it. Good luck!
