I was wondering if it happens at other schools, My son attends a large high school and only have jr and varsity baesball but allow all 7th grade-12th to try out, 18 positions per team. Are there age limits in SC and is not bad to mix 12 and 16 yr olds together. I dont understand how a kid will ever get to play. High school first cuts then days later trys out middle and has the second cut after that.Yes they have 7th graders on the team. Its hard enough with the school politics how can you compete

Some one mentioned that because there are no middle school teams that 8th graders are allowed to compete. I have never lived in a state (just NY and FL) that had middle school baseball teams. Here in Florida we are much smaller. We had maybe 25 new kids come out for the team. Just fielding a JV and Varsity team. Only HS kids can even think about coming out for the team, and most do not make the program. We carry about 20 Varsity and 18 JV. Some JV play up on occasion but are limited to how many total games they can play in a year.

I really do not understand why programs open the door to middle schoolers. They will get their turn soon enough.
