My 18 year old just finished his last high school baseball game over the weekend. After playing on a below average team his first three years, this team had quite a lot of success and so did my son. I took some great advise, from some other posters, and really enjoyed watching him play this year, with his college set, and no worries. I am looking forward to seeing him play next year in college, but I know it just won't be the same. It went by so quick, but my little boy has become a man. It has been a great ride!

Know the feeling... my nephew Adam's season ended three weeks ago and it's been very hard. This senior class has been together since they were 9. This was a particularly good season for the entire team as well as Adam personally. He became a true leader on his team, a great teammate and took the younger kids under his wing which made us all so proud. Considering he didn't play due to his torn ACL last year, it was a great accomplishment when he was named to the All County Team.

Summer ball has already started but it's not the same. The next step is to see if he can really compete at the D1 level or not.

Thanks to all who post here. The knowledge that you all have is invaluable.
Senior year of HS baseball really is bittersweet. Mine graduated in 2004, but I still clearly remember that final season, especially the highlights.

So true! When mine headed off to college (only 80 miles away), hanging around here with other parents helped me cope with the first couple months of missing him. And when college baseball started with its ups and downs, parents here helped me to keep it all in perspective! Wink

It is a bittersweet time. You have so much to look forward to with your son continuing to play in college. Yet, it's sad that high school with all the buddies they have become close to, all go their own ways.

But....then they go away to college and you miss them. College baseball is a whole new experience with new teammates and new parents. It is so much fun to experience. Then the season ends and you will miss all the players that graduated or got drafted. My son is half way through college now and I can see how tough it will be when he's a senior.

and even through lowlights....l8 breaking jr's high school season ended last week in the first round of the playoffs. he was starting pitcher against a team that he has beaten twice in the last two years. in fact those two times were the only time in school history our team had beaten them.

he gave up 4 earned in the 1st inning. it was one of those nights where he just didn't have it....i know it was a difficult night for him, to end hs that way and the tears and hugs from his teammates did little to ease the sting. but through it all, he learned alot about winning, losing, success and failure. 9 of the varsity players have been playing together since they were 7 & 8 years old.

he's lucky that he's playing at the next level....and hopefully he can appreciate the advice i gave him....."it's only a loss if you don't learn something from it"

congrats to all the class of 2010 grads.....and goodluck to those who are moving on....whether as student baseball players, draftees, or just moving on to whatever else life has in store.
