All of the above.
If the coach is teaching baseball and developing players then he should win games and perhaps championships--this in turn promotes the school and get the players known so they advance to the next level
Your post is very interesting and I'm sure opinoins will vary greatly. I believe the bottom line is the coach needs to have a winning record or he won't be the coach for long. I know that is how things work here. Example, football coach hired in '96 coached 3 season , had a record of 9 and 21. Replaced in '99.
I must say that my '04 son has been blessed with a baseball coach that tries his best to do all of the things on your list. He is in his 9th season and has never had a losing season, he tries very hard to promote his players and has had many make it to the next level. He also gives kid clinics and camps, homerun derby every year , he does these things to get the community invloved with the team and to make money. He also works at getting the players involved with the younger kids in the area, example sr. players go to the elem. school and read to the kindergarten classes. Sure he wants to win, who doesn't, but he also wants to develop good ball players who give back to their community.

Agree with TRHit 100%.
All the other things fall in place when "first things first" philosophy is applied.

Opinion: His job is to develope quality young men using baseball as a tool.
Wins will come, if they don't, he's not developing young men. If they do, that's a direct result of Team Building, which developes character.
It is called HIGH SCHOOL after all!

Agree with TR, however I do believe that a HS coach should also be trying to help players get into a college that fits their academic and athletic abilities. HS coaches should be teachers with regard to baseball, and teacher's jobs go beyond just providing the opportunity to learn.
TR you got that exactly right. Agree entirely
