I was watching a high school game, here in Canada, and someone wearing steel spiked cleats slides into home. The catcher, with the ball at the ready for the tag, is at home. The runner slides and jabs his foot into the catcher's groin. The catcher was down for a good 10-15mins. The defending team's coach was furious along with many players. The umpire did not make a call about the injury. There WAS much blood and scrapes. The catcher was lucky he was wearing a cup though. Later, when the catcher was on the bench, the coach motions to the umpire to come and see how bad the injury was. All the umpire says is it's too late. I really don't believe that. Does anyone have any comments about this or how to go by getting some sort of ruling on this? (the catcher was my bro.) Thanks.

I'm not sure what you want? Those of us who were not there have no idea of how the play transpired. You are intimating that the spiking was intentional (jabs his foot). Is it unusual in Canada that a HS player wear steel spikes? Are you saying that it was intentional and looking for sympathy here? Don't you guys play hockey up there? The umpire obviously didn't think it was intentional or he would have done something. Shame it happened....it's a tough game sometimes....get over it IMO. I guess my question is....did you know the player who was spiked and are you related?
Well what I want to know is if there is anything you can do since the incident occurred a few days ago. Like is it possible to have the player suspended? The catcher was my brother as stated at the end of the post. The runner clearly did it on purpose. At the end of the game, the opposing team even took their jerseys off in an attempt to hide who did it.
You stated...

The runner clearly did it on purpose.

The problem is that you really do not know for sure that it was intentional. As for taking off his jersey at the end of the game...were there threats made toward him? If so, then that does not seem all that unusual.

I find it difficult to believe that anyone would intentionally kick someone in the groin with spikes on...that just seems like an invitation for a nasty visit from the Baseball gods. More likely, it was a bang-bang thing that resulted in an unfortunate injury.
The simple answer to your question is "no".

If the umpire, at the time of the play, saw no malicious contact, then you have nothing and nothing further can be done. I know you state the runner clearly did it on purpose....and Im sure that is your take on it....but in this case only the umpires opinion matters......The umpire did not see the play as deliberate.....

The umpire was correct to say that after the fact there is nothing that can be done.......

From your post, there is no way for me to determine intent to harm on behalf of the runner, but from your post some things are clear and common...

Steel spikes are legal for NFHS
Feet first sliding is legal in NFHS

People get spiked and injured. Hopefully your brother will recover with no ill effects..
