During the Deep Run/Godwin game for the district championship Deep Run started Jimmy Weidmann on the mound. CF Bruce pitched the second half of the game for Deep Run. Both pitchers were seniors and neither had seen much playing time during the season due to the number of "arms" on the team. These two seniors pitched a smart "pitch to contact" game. They held a VERY GOOD Godwin team to 1 run.It was great to see a final success for these two as they finished their high school baseball experience. I know some wondered about the coaches' choice at the begining of the game - but there were no doubters by the end.

I assume you're referring to the SECOND outstanding catch he made in that one inning. The first one was really good, but the second one was unbelievable. Both happened on back to back hitters, only a pitch or two apart.
i gotta say seeing my sons team win a close game against a team nobody said they could beat...to see the joy explode on the field was amazing.
My other memory was when the season ended..no joy but tears after the game. After the team finished their little meeting my son came and hugged me. Not only was the season over but his high school career..during that embrace i felt like he was little again and all the great memories we made together flashed through my mind in that momemt. He has always been a warrior who overcame alot and has done everything i ever asked him to do. I will remember that sweaty dusty tearfful embrace as long as i live. sad...but lots of pride and joy too.

Hey... He said "BEST" memory. That implies something that is GOOD. LOL

Next season I will be in that same boat and I have to say that I am NOT looking forward to it. Sure, it will be nice to watch my son play college ball, but I just don't see it comparing to the adventures that we have had over the last 12 years. Sitting in the stands watching him play just will never compare to the road trips of his youth...
Well my son is a 8th grader who made JV...so it was his first year of HS ball.

Best memory?

Probably him driving in the tying run in his first HS game. He was the DH. After that game he won a starting position. I say that only because the first two at bats he hit the ball HARD, but right at a someone both times. He didn't get discouraged, and more importantly, didn't try to change his swing or his approach for his third at bat.
I have always thought of raising children as like eating a fine meal...the meal tastes so good your tendancy is to devour it and eat quickly but you know it is better to fight the urge, chew slowly, and enjoy every bite.
With kids it has been so enjoyable t me and gone by quickly...i have tried my best to savor all the experiencs and enjoy them. Hope you guys with young kids will take the opportunity to do the same!

Maybe that's why this particular topic is so important. Good that we take the time to look back at the season and remember the "Best of..." instead of simply forgetting the season as we crank up the summer schedule...

You're right on point hs. It goes by in a flash...
Another best one of the season was watching a kid from Briar Woods, Victor Rizzardi, go flashing across from centerfield to make a diving, full-out stretch snag about 3 inches off the ground on the warning track. He hit the ground and immediately smashed into the fence, rolled onto his back and held up his glove. Out!

I remember thinking that I had just watched one of the finest catches I had ever seen and wished that I had it on video to send to ESPN.

Funny thing about it? It was my own son who had hit the ball... Well done Victor...
I can remember like it was only yesterday 5 years ago when my son was an 8th grader. They were to post final cuts that saturday at 12:00. My friend and I got our sons and headed to look at the list at the high school at 12:00 on the dot. When we got there they were not posted. We decided to drive over to a local burger joint, get some food, and kill some time.
Just as we sat down and got our food, in walked the JV coaches who sat down a few tables away from us. I still remember the looks on the kids faces and ours. It was clear the information we wanted so badly was posted at the school. NEVER were four hamburgers eaten that quickly! Fries were thown away and drinks went half finsihed as we rushed out the door, dropped our trash in the can with out stopping, and back up to the school.

Well said, hsbasballfan. Having a boy that is graduating from HS and going on to play college ball, I can say there have been too many memorable instances to list, and I can hope that there will be more to come.

Now that the high school season is over - I'd love to hear (see?)some rays of light! What is your best baseball memory of this season! Thanks!

Got a few of them:

1) First ever HR at the varsity level - King George vs Hermitage during spring break. KG leading 9-1 in the 4th inning, my son, Dylan, is up with bases loaded and two outs. Works the count to 2-2. Next pitch comes in on the outside corner which he proceeds to wait on and drives over the right field fence for a Grand Slam. KG would go on to win 23-10 in a slugfest - 8 HR's between both teams (4 each). To top it off, we caught his Grand Slam on video.

2) Later in the season, he had 5 put outs in one game - fielding 3 hot grounders and two pop ups in foul territory.

3) Was named to the 1st Team All District (coaches vote) for his play at 3rd - only one on his team to be named to the 1st team. Was also named to the All-Area squad by the local paper (Honorable Mention).
