I use Sony Vegas Pro but it is quite expensive. You can get Sony Vegas Movie Studio for around $100 and it is a very good editing program. Pinnacle is quite popular as well and there is always Windows Muvee Maker which comes installed on alot of machines these days.

You don't need an $800 program (Vegas Pro) to make a baseball highlight reel. Coaches are just wanting to see the player, not over the top editing skills or graphics.
I am not sure about the freeware programs around but Pinnacle studio works great. My son has been using it for years for his school projects and I use it for slowing down the video to get a frame by frame look at his mechanics. I would suggest that any video you send should have full speed and at least some 1/2 speed video.

Frankly most of the Utube stuff is useless due to the poor resolution and lack of slow motion.
