Hitter Out Before Getting a Pitch | High School Baseball Web

Easy one here for you folks. Two outs, man on 1st. New batter is ready in the box, but pitcher picks off the baserunner to end the inning so the new batter never sees a pitch. Does the new batter leadoff when his team is up to bat again the next inning or is it on to the next batter? Thanks.

the batter was never put out. He leads off the next inning. Same as if he'd seen none or 10 pitches, but wasn't put out when the 3rd out was made.

To clarify, if the count was full when the pickoff happened, the batter gets to start all over the next inning? Thanks.

yes. if he had a full count, the runner got put out, then the next inning, he would lead off with a new count.

Did the batter complete his at bat prior to the third out being made? No. So he is at bat when his team "comes up" next.

Sorta. The batter doesn't have to be the 3rd out, but must have completed his at bat when the third out was made.
