Don't know if this is good or not but in addition to his hitting off a T or hitting live pitching in a cage, I have dyed lima beans with food coloring (red, blue, green, yellow) and thrown them to him for bp. Before he hits it, he has to call the color. He's even hit colored popcorn kernels on occasion. To this day, he's got a bag of beans in his baseball bag. He's 18 now.

All of these are great drills to go with. Never tried the beans but have heard of others using it with great success.

Basically the concept is if you can focus in to hit a smaller target with a smaller bat - a broom stick or the Thunderstick - will make a baseball look like a beach ball.

Just make sure they are hitting it solid.

how about throwing wiffle balls instead at a closer range?.is this just as good or is it detrimental?

It's a very good thing to do...Stay off the tee and throw whiffle balls....Baseball size and with a bat....Don't use smaller size balls and bat.....It's not about hand-eye coordination.....

It's about timing pitches with efficient body movement with the same size ball and bat you will use in a game......
