I'm looking for advice. Is it best to teach the hips rotate first with the hands following last in the sequence? Or, when the back hips rotates, the hands go at the same time? What would be the pros and cons of each? Thanks.

In my view, the front hip is part of aiming the hands to the ball. In the swing, fire the bat to extension in front of the body and then add hip turn.
This gets the bat into the zone sooner and gives a longer flight through the zone.
Early hip turn will cause the hands to be chasing behind the hips. This causes a long to the zone and short through the zone swing.

I would listen to Ted Williams.
He said the hips lead the hands.
You will often see the hips and hands rotate at the same time in kids (or vice versa), but not in pros.

Ichiro will, even Manny on certain pitches. Not all hitters are alike.
Most have to let their feet start their hips, first, thus being able to create load and connection with their elbow, a premature fire by the hands generally leads to casting and a long swing.

Agreed, but both can create power, from either swing, as Blue would say, they are able to maintain stretch, even when fooled on a pitch, thus the hands are back at load/launch, and with that have the ability to adjust to the pitch, without getting too far out on the frontside. Both, future HOF'ers.
