Your question centered on training with added weight as in "over - under" training?

The two posted opposing articles concern what is best in the on-deck circle. Two entirely different scenarios.

I've known of the principles in the article forever as does my son who swings a lighter bat on deck.

We have however, employed over and under principles with heavier (38oz)to lighter bats in hitting sessions often ending with a light fungo bat and tennis balls for explosive swings.

One must always remember, however, the principle of training specificity. Swinging a heavier bat won't increase bat speed any more than running with ankle weights will increase foot speed. The results will be just the opposite.
