I brought this up under the c/b section and I would just like to hear some of the posters thoughts on hitting the c/b at the youth level. We have always let the kids swing away and taught them in practice how to hit them. A majority of the teams we play never let the kids swing at them until they get 2 strikes. Our philosophy has always been swing away so they learn how to hit them and which ones to swing at.

Just looking for some different views, pro or con, on the subject since some of the big boys of the board have come down to the Pre side. Smile

When Gary Ward the the head coach at Oklahoma State it was known as Hitter's U. Players were taught to take the curve until they had to swing at it.

Before high school, how many pitchers can consistantly throw curves for strikes? I'll bet a large majority if curves swung at in pre varsity high school ball are not in the strike zone. Taking these pitches sets up the 2-0, 3-1 fastball down the pipe. Now it's hitting time!
