depending on the level I like to have both play with the runner a little bit. But your pretty on about rh hitter 2nd, LH hitter ss. You also need to know the hitter (stay away/opposite type hitter). Then also the pitcher will play a role where on if he is throwing hard or soft and they are going to be late or early. Your infielders and pitchers should be on the same page on their looks. The middle infied should know how times the pitcher is looking to 2nd base so they know when to get back. They should never be standing on 2nd base and the pitcher is pitching they are leaving too big of a hole.
One thing I'd suggest is to keep your SS and 2nd baseman off the bag about 4-5 ft when holding the runner. it's enough to keep them honest. They can move in quick enough on a pick off and it gives them a few extra steps to get back into position on the pitch.
Like svd16u said. They should never be standing on the bag.
